Antibiotic Sensitivity Discs

Antibiotic sensitivity discs, also known as antibiotic susceptibility discs or antibiotic disks, are small, sterile paper discs impregnated with specific concentrations of antibiotics. They are widely used in microbiology laboratories to assess the sensitivity or resistance of bacteria to various antibiotics. In antibiotic sensitivity testing, a standardized inoculum of bacteria is spread on a culture medium, and antibiotic discs are placed on the surface. The zones of inhibition around the discs are then measured after incubation, providing information about the sensitivity or resistance of the bacteria to the tested antibiotics. The results aid healthcare professionals in making informed decisions about antibiotic therapy.
